Details

Sculpture titled 'Jump for Joy' by Keeley Chapman.

Raku fired hare sculpture mounted on 17th Century farm house oak base with cornstalk details. L.107xH.77cm.

Keeley is a Norfolk artist whose pieces are inspired by the wildlife and wild spaces around her. She describes herself as an interpretive sculptor; "as ideas and images are given creative freedom, they flow through my hands changing organically as each item develops".

Keeley uses the process of Raku firing which is a natural technique using all of natures elements. The pieces are quickly heated to 1000 degrees before being exposed to the cool outside air. They are then placed in a container with a lid called a 'reduction chamber' which sucks the carbon into the bare clay, which causes the typical cracking to the glaze that is seen in Raku sculptures. Finally they are plunged into cold water to halt the process
